HILLANDALE GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Durham, NC, USA
Designed by George Cobb
Hillandale Golf Course, a Durham fixture since 1957, represents a classic, unpretentious approach to the game, a refreshing counterpoint to the modern, championship-chasing designs. Carved into the gently rolling terrain north of downtown, Hillandale is a parkland-style course defined by its mature hardwood trees and subtly contoured fairways. It favors a strategic, rather than bomb-and-gouge style of play, rewarding thoughtful course management over brute strength. The shorter layout often sees creative shot-making favored, with many older members citing its playability and walkability as its greatest assets.
Designed by George Cobb, known for his work at numerous courses throughout the Southeast, Hillandale has remained largely unchanged over the years, retaining its original character. It presents a traditional, shot-maker's test, where accuracy and position are paramount. While it hasn't hosted any major professional championships, the course is a staple for local amateur tournaments and is beloved by Durham's golfing community.
Hillandale's reputation rests not on national accolades, but on its role as a community hub. Generations of Durham residents have learned to play the game here. A welcoming atmosphere, affordable green fees, and a laid-back clubhouse, are notable characteristics. A round at Hillandale is more than just golf; it’s an experience steeped in local history and camaraderie.

3 Tacos and a Coke for $10 remains undefeated. It’s a pretty good muni, some interesting holes. If you want to blow your hair back, find the binder with the typed up club history.
