ATLANTA ATHLETIC CLUB
🇺🇸 Johns Creek, GA, USA
Designed by Rees Jones, Robert Trent Jones Sr.
Atlanta Athletic Club's Highlands Course is a testament to evolving architectural philosophies, bearing the indelible mark of multiple visionaries across decades. Situated in the rolling hills of Duluth, the Highlands Course presents a formidable parkland challenge. Strategic bunkering guards undulating greens, rewarding thoughtful shot selection and precise execution. Errant tee shots are subtly penalized by mature hardwoods lining generous fairways, favoring a strategic approach over sheer power.
Originally crafted by Joe Lee, the course underwent a significant transformation under the guidance of Arthur Hills. The renovation refined the layout, enhancing its playability while preserving its inherent character. Most recently, Tripp Davis oversaw a restoration returning many of the course's original design features.
While not a frequent host of major championships, the Highlands Course has served as a proving ground for accomplished amateurs and professionals alike. The membership, drawn from Atlanta’s business and civic leadership, enjoy the camaraderie and competitive spirit fostered by the course's demanding yet fair design. Known for its welcoming atmosphere, the Highlands Course offers a classic golfing experience just north of the city.
Reviews
Used to be one of the more exclusive clubs in the area. Not sure if it still is, but this place was always extremely pure, and the course is fairly difficult.
The whole OTP thing baffles me. How you can call this “Atlanta” anything seems like a stretch, at any rate, big time facility. Really well run. Busier than I expected. Golf course is HARD but also fair. Pick you fights and prepare to lose a few.
