The course was designed by Cortlandt Fish, a regional architect active in the mid-twentieth century who worked primarily in the New York metropolitan area and surrounding counties. The Highland nine, as its name suggests, occupies higher ground with more elevation change and rolling terrain characteristic of the Hudson Valley's glacially shaped landscape. The Valley nine plays through lower-lying areas with gentler contours. Together, the two nines provide variety in both topography and shot requirements, moving through wooded corridors and more open stretches typical of courses built when land was less constrained. Beekman operates as a semi-private facility, offering both membership and daily-fee access.
