Highland Lakes at Highland Lakes Country Club

Highland Lakes Country Club sits on the elevated terrain northwest of Austin, overlooking Lake Travis in the Texas Hill Country. The course was designed by Dave Bennett, Leon Howard, and Charles Howard, opening in the mid-1970s during a period of residential golf development around the Highland Lakes chain. The routing takes advantage of the natural topography, with fairways moving through limestone outcroppings, live oak groves, and native cedar, and several holes offer views across the lake and surrounding hills.

The layout reflects the design sensibilities of its era, with tree-lined corridors and greens that incorporate the site's natural elevation changes. Water comes into play on a handful of holes, both from lake views and smaller on-course features. The course serves a residential membership drawn largely from the Austin metropolitan area and the lakeside communities that developed in this region during the 1970s and 1980s.

Highland Lakes Country Club functions as a traditional private club with dining and social facilities complementing the golf course. The setting provides a contrast to the flatter parkland courses closer to Austin, offering a Hill Country experience characterized by rocky terrain, native vegetation, and the presence of the lake.
