Highland Creek Golf Club

Highland Creek, weaving through the Charlotte University Research Park, stands as a testament to the public golf boom of the late 20th century. This parkland layout, designed by Gary Player's design team in 1994, presents a surprisingly stern test considering its accessibility. The course, while routed through relatively gentle terrain, demands strategic play with water hazards snaking through several holes and mature trees lining the fairways, requiring players to strategically work the ball. Expect to be challenged on the greens. The course has hosted various local and regional amateur events, providing a competitive platform for aspiring golfers in the Charlotte area. Its design, while not on the level of a Ryder Cup venue, remains popular with local societies, leagues, and corporate outings given its playability and affordability. Highland Creek is known amongst locals for being a great value and a fun course to walk, especially in the fall when the leaves change color. The club has a strong men's golf association and weekly games are well attended. It is also one of the few public courses to sport bentgrass greens.
