HIGH VISTA GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Mills River, NC, USA
Designed by Tom Jackson

High Vista Golf Club sits in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Mills River, North Carolina, roughly twenty miles south of Asheville. Designed by Tom Jackson and opened in the late 1990s, the course occupies elevated terrain that provides mountain views and significant elevation changes throughout the round. The property's topography shapes much of the routing, with holes that move across ridgelines and through valleys characteristic of western North Carolina's mountain golf landscape.
The layout takes advantage of natural contours and wooded corridors, with fairways that often require strategic positioning to navigate the slopes and doglegs effectively. Several holes feature dramatic elevation shifts from tee to green, while others play along more level plateaus before descending or climbing to the next hole. The mountain setting introduces both scenic variety and practical challenges related to uneven lies and distance judgment in the thinner air.
High Vista operates as a private club serving the Mills River and greater Asheville area. The course represents one of several mountain golf options in this region of North Carolina, where golf development expanded during the 1990s to serve both local residents and seasonal visitors drawn to the Blue Ridge climate and landscape. The club's location places it within a corridor of golf courses that extends from Asheville south toward Hendersonville, an area known for its concentration of mountain golf facilities.
Reviews
First course I’ve played outside of Florida and it was super fun playing on the side of a mountain. Lots of elevation change and tons of fun holes. They were letting the greens re-grow back in and I caught them the day before they were about to mow so they were fuzzy but not patchy. All the greens are similar design - super narrow and long, made for interesting approaches. Went out on a rainy morning because I wasn’t passing up the opportunity to golf on a mountain and I was the only one on the course so I flew through it. Just played it again on a beautifully sunny day - still such a fun course with really sick views. The 13th hole is by far the dumbest hole in America. They need to update the graphic on the cart GPS because it makes the hole even worse. Other than that - most of the other holes are great in variety and fun to play!
