OSPREY VALLEY RESORT
🇨🇦 Alton, Ontario, CA
Designed by Doug Carrick

Heathlands is one of three courses at Osprey Valley Resort in the rolling countryside northwest of Toronto. Designed by Canadian architect Doug Carrick and opened in 1992, it was the first of the resort's layouts and established the property's reputation for thoughtful routing across varied terrain. Carrick worked with natural elevation changes and wooded corridors characteristic of the Caledon Hills region, creating a course that moves through distinct landscape zones rather than imposing a single aesthetic across the property.
The design emphasizes strategic options from the tee and rewards golfers who position drives carefully for preferred approach angles. Fairways often feature width but use internal contours and bunker placement to create risk-reward decisions. Greens are moderately contoured with surrounding areas that require attention to short game execution. The routing takes advantage of natural features including wetlands, mature trees, and elevation shifts that provide both visual interest and strategic variety across the eighteen holes.
Heathlands serves as the anchor course at Osprey Valley, which has developed into a multi-course destination that includes the Hoot and Toot layouts. The facility caters to both resort guests and member play, with the Heathlands course representing a more traditional parkland experience compared to its companion courses. The property sits within the Niagara Escarpment region, an area known for its distinctive topography and natural beauty roughly an hour's drive from downtown Toronto.
