ALCAIDESA LINKS GOLF RESORT
🇪🇸 La Linea-Cadiz, Andalucia, ES
Designed by Dave Thomas
The Heathland course at Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort occupies elevated terrain in the municipality of La Línea de la Concepción, near the southern tip of Spain where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic. Designed by Dave Thomas and opened in 1992, the layout sits inland from the resort's later Links course, positioned on higher ground with views across the Strait of Gibraltar toward North Africa and the Rock of Gibraltar. The routing takes advantage of the natural contours and vegetation of the site, which features more pronounced elevation changes than typical links terrain.
Thomas, a former Ryder Cup player who designed numerous courses across Europe, shaped the Heathland to play as a parkland-style complement to the property's seaside offering. The course measures over 6,000 meters from the back tees and incorporates strategic bunkering and water hazards on several holes. The elevated setting exposes the layout to coastal winds, though the terrain provides some shelter compared to true links ground. Native Mediterranean vegetation, including cork oaks and umbrella pines, frames many holes and defines the character of the routing.
Alcaidesa serves both resort visitors and members, positioned within the Costa del Sol golf corridor that extends along Spain's southern coast. The facility operates as part of the region's concentration of golf courses catering to European tourists and expatriate residents. The Heathland layout provides a contrasting experience to the Links course, offering tree-lined fairways and more dramatic topography within the same property.
