TREVOSE GOLF CLUB
🏴 Padstow, Cornwall, England
Designed by Peter Alliss
The Headland Course at Trevose Golf Club occupies a dramatic clifftop site on the north Cornwall coast near Padstow, where the Atlantic Ocean shapes both the landscape and the playing conditions. Peter Alliss designed this layout to complement the club's older Championship Course, routing holes across windswept linksland that features natural dunes, gorse, and exposed terrain typical of Cornwall's rugged coastline. The course sits within a working golf complex that has served members and visitors since the early twentieth century, though the Headland represents a later addition to the property.
The routing takes advantage of the coastal topography, with several holes playing along elevated ground that offers views across the estuary and surrounding farmland. Wind is a constant factor, influencing club selection and strategy throughout the round. The design incorporates natural contours and native vegetation, creating a links experience that feels appropriate to its setting without the severe difficulty of championship-length courses. Holes move through varied terrain, from more sheltered valleys to exposed ridgelines where the elements become the primary defense.
Trevose functions as a traditional members' club with a strong regional identity, drawing golfers who appreciate links golf in a less formal atmosphere than some of Cornwall's more prominent venues. The Headland Course provides an alternative to the longer Championship layout, offering a genuine coastal experience that reflects both the landscape and Alliss's understanding of strategic golf design suited to the British seaside environment.
