Hat Creek Golf Course

Hat Creek, woven into the rolling Virginia countryside near Brookneal, is a classic player's course, understated in its presentation yet demanding in its execution. Originally conceived in the early 1970s, its design favors a strategic approach, with tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens placing a premium on shot placement. The gently undulating terrain is pure parkland, calling for controlled drives and calculated iron play. The course is not tricked up, or overly penalized, however, errant tee shots are quickly punished by the well established hardwood forests that loom to either side. Long hitters will find an advantage, but not without an equal measure of risk as many holes are doglegs. Hat Creek remains a cherished local venue, beloved by a dedicated membership who appreciate its unpretentious character. The club's most famous tradition is a member's only cross country event played every December where the winner earns bragging rights for the whole year.
