GRIFFITH PARK GOLF COMPLEX
🇺🇸 Los Angeles, CA, USA
Designed by William Francis Bell, Willie Watson

Harding, nestled within Griffith Park's rugged landscape, is Los Angeles municipal golf in its purest, most challenging form. Opened in 1923, the course bears the indelible stamp of its era, a classic design that prioritizes strategy and shot-making over brute force. Rolling hills, mature trees, and cunningly placed bunkers define the playing experience, rewarding golfers who can navigate its quirks and embrace its old-school charm.
Designed by William P. Bell, Harding is a stern test that favors the thinking golfer. Narrow fairways place a premium on accuracy off the tee, while undulating greens demand a deft touch with the putter. The layout doglegs frequently, calling for precise club selection and the ability to shape shots. While length isn't the course's primary defense, errant shots are swiftly penalized, swallowed by the surrounding wilderness of Griffith Park.
Though it hasn't hosted majors, Harding has played its part in the city's golfing narrative. It is a steadfast staple for the LA golfer, a test of the game that has humbly served generations of players who appreciate its charm and modest stature in the local community. The course is known to test even the very best players' abilities, and is a reminder that the golf course stands to challenge any and all. It is a true test and reminder that golf comes down to the love of the game.
Beyond the course itself, Harding embodies the spirit of Los Angeles golf. It's unpretentious, accessible, and a place where golfers from all walks of life come together to enjoy the game. Stories are often swapped after the round, and many locals will mention a 'best score' they’ve ever shot at the golf course, or the one time they played a round with their dad. Harding is a local treasure that keeps the game grounded in the city of Angels.
Reviews
LA city course at the end of the day. Would rather play Wilson but it’s better than rancho imo. Really good variety of holes with some very fun scoring opportunities. 16-18 is my favorite stretch of la city golf
