SOUTH SHORE HARBOUR COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 League City, TX, USA
Designed by Dave Marr, Jay Riviere
South Shore Harbour Country Club's Harbour Course sits along Clear Lake in League City, approximately thirty miles southeast of Houston. The course was designed by Dave Marr and Jay Riviere and opened in the late 1980s as part of a residential and marina development. Marr, a PGA Championship winner and respected television commentator, collaborated with Riviere, an experienced Texas-based architect, to create a layout suited to the flat coastal terrain characteristic of the upper Texas Gulf Coast.
The course occupies land reclaimed and shaped from marshland and plays through a landscape defined by water features, bulkheads, and native grasses. Several holes run along the shores of Clear Lake and the development's marina, incorporating views of sailboats and the lake's open water. The routing makes extensive use of lakes and canals, which come into play on most holes, and the design relies on strategic bunkering and water hazards rather than elevation change to create challenge. Wind off the lake is a frequent factor in club selection and shot shaping.
The club serves a membership drawn largely from the League City and Clear Lake area, part of the greater Houston metropolitan region. The facility includes dining and social amenities typical of a private country club in a master-planned community. The Harbour Course represents a style of Gulf Coast golf common to its era, where water management and coastal setting define the playing experience more than landform or dramatic topography.
