HAIG POINT CLUB AND COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
🇺🇸 Hilton Head Island, SC, USA
Designed by Rees Jones
Haig Point, located on the northern tip of Daufuskie Island, embraces a history intertwined with Gullah culture and Lowcountry mystique. This Rees Jones design, carved from maritime forests and skirting the Calibogue Sound, presents a thoroughly modern take on seaside golf, with generous fairways that belie the strategic challenges ahead. The coastal breezes and subtly contoured greens reward creative shot-making and deft putting touches, while strategically placed bunkers stand ready to punish wayward approaches. Its characteristics favor shot shapers on the front nine and bombers of the ball as the course opens up on the back nine.
Beyond the golf course, Haig Point fosters a close-knit community, drawn together by a shared appreciation for the island’s unique tranquility and slower pace of life. Members enjoy an array of activities, from equestrian pursuits to casual gatherings, that are more than just tee times and cocktails. The community is filled with members from around the country, many of which enjoy the course’s natural beauty and the rich local heritage. It’s not uncommon to find members sharing stories of their day, often filled with laughter and a sense of belonging.
Despite its relative seclusion, Haig Point maintains its reputation as a memorable golf experience within the Carolinas. There is no burger dog but instead, the island's culinary heritage is celebrated through Lowcountry boils and fresh seafood feasts, enjoyed against the backdrop of breathtaking sunset views. Haig Point’s allure lies in its ability to seamlessly blend a challenging golfing experience with a relaxed, island lifestyle.
