GRIFFITH E. HARRIS GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Greenwich, CT, USA
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.
Griffith E. Harris Golf Course, affectionately known as "The Griff," represents affordable, accessible golf for the public amidst Greenwich's affluence. A product of the 1960s, its classic parkland layout wanders through rolling hills just north of the Long Island Sound.
Architects Dick Wilson and Joe Lee fashioned a layout where subtle doglegs and deceptively sloped greens test course management more than raw power. While not long by modern standards, the Griff demands strategic shot-making; errant approaches can lead to frustratingly quick downhill putts. The course, known for its undulating terrain, rewards players who can navigate its intricacies.
The Griff, though lacking the pedigree of some neighboring clubs, holds its own charm and a fierce local loyalty. Its modest clubhouse serves as a social hub, where stories of near misses and improbable birdies are shared with gusto. And while the club may not boast a signature dish, the camaraderie cultivated over post-round hot dogs is a tradition cherished by its devoted players.
Reviews
Pretty good municipal golf, a handful of memorable holes and good conditioning. Greens true but on the slower side.
