Designed by Greg Norman

The Greg Norman Course at Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, Virginia, opened in 1991 as one of Greg Norman's early American design projects during his transition from touring professional to course architect. The layout occupies rolling piedmont terrain in Loudoun County, approximately forty miles west of Washington, D.C., where the land begins its gradual rise toward the Blue Ridge Mountains. Norman routed the course to take advantage of natural elevation changes and wooded corridors typical of northern Virginia's landscape.
The design reflects Norman's emerging philosophy in the early 1990s, emphasizing strategic options from the tee and approach play that rewards aggressive lines without severely punishing conservative routes. The course features generous fairway corridors framed by mature hardwoods, with water hazards coming into play on several holes. Greens are moderately contoured with surrounding bunkering that defines approach angles. The routing moves through varied topography, with several holes playing across or along ridgelines that provide views of the surrounding countryside.
Lansdowne Resort developed as a full-service golf destination with the Norman course serving as the centerpiece of the property. The facility later added a second eighteen-hole course and has hosted regional amateur competitions and corporate outings. The course remains accessible to resort guests and outside play, serving both the northern Virginia golf market and visitors to the Leesburg area. The layout provides a representative example of Norman's design work from his formative period as an architect.
