GREENWOOD COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Greenwood, SC, USA
Designed by Clyde Johnston, George Cobb

Greenwood Country Club, a traditional hub for Upstate South Carolina golf, presents a classic parkland experience crafted in the mid-20th century. The gently rolling terrain, punctuated by mature hardwoods and strategically placed water features, favors accuracy and course management over sheer power. The course does demand respect on approach shots that can be deceiving.
Designed by George Cobb, a prolific architect known for his contributions to courses across the Southeast, Greenwood’s layout emphasizes strategic bunkering and subtly contoured greens. While not having undergone significant architectural overhauls, the course retains Cobb’s original vision, offering a balanced test for players of all skill levels.
Beyond the course, Greenwood Country Club is a social center, the kind of place where members arrive early for a round and stay late into the evening. Their men's locker room is a noted card-playing hub for the region’s most competitive and convivial gin rummy players.
