THE GREENBRIER AMERICA'S RESORT
🇺🇸 White Sulphur Springs, WV, USA
Designed by Jack Nicklaus, Seth Raynor

The Greenbrier's original championship course, now known as the Old White TPC, was designed by C.B. Macdonald and completed by Seth Raynor in 1914. This layout follows Raynor's template philosophy, incorporating his characteristic Biarritz, Redan, and Short holes across rolling terrain in the Allegheny Mountains. The course underwent significant restoration in the 2000s to recapture Raynor's original design intent and now serves as the venue for PGA TOUR events, including A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier.
Jack Nicklaus designed The Greenbrier Course (formerly the Greenbrier Course, now called simply The Greenbrier) in 1977, replacing an earlier layout. This design navigates the property's natural elevation changes and features the Golden Horseshoe's characteristic mountain setting, with holes routed through mature hardwood forests and across Howard's Creek. The course presents a more modern championship test compared to the Old White, with strategic bunkering and larger, contoured greens typical of Nicklaus's design approach from that era.
The resort itself dates to 1778 and has hosted presidents, foreign dignitaries, and society figures for more than two centuries. The property's golf tradition extends back to the early 1900s, and the resort maintains multiple courses beyond these two primary championship layouts. The grand white-columned hotel and manicured grounds reflect the property's long-standing reputation as a destination for traditional American resort golf, with formal dining and classic accommodations complementing the golf experience.
