WYNDEMERE COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Naples, FL, USA
Designed by Arthur Hills
Wyndemere Country Club's Green/White combination draws from two of the three nines that Arthur Hills designed for this Naples community when it opened in the mid-1980s. Hills, known for his strategic use of water and his ability to work within Florida's flat terrain, created a layout that reflects the design priorities of that era: generous fairways balanced by water hazards on multiple holes, elevated greens that provide both definition and drainage, and substantial bunkering that frames landing areas and green complexes.
The routing moves through a residential setting typical of Naples country club developments, with mature landscaping and homes lining many holes. The White nine tends to feature more water in play, while the Green nine offers a slightly different rhythm with its own set of hazards and green configurations. Hills incorporated the natural wetlands and created additional water features to add strategic interest to what is otherwise modest topography. The greens show the architect's characteristic contouring, requiring thoughtful approach play and careful reading on the putting surface.
Wyndemere operates as a private equity club serving its residential community, with golf as one component of a broader country club lifestyle that includes tennis and social amenities. The club has maintained the course through Florida's challenging growing conditions, and the layout remains representative of Hills's work during a period when he was actively designing throughout the southeastern United States.
