GRANITE BAY GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Granite Bay, CA, USA
Designed by Kyle Phillips, Robert Trent Jones, Jr.

Granite Bay Golf Club sits in the rolling foothills northeast of Sacramento, where the terrain transitions from valley floor to the Sierra Nevada range. The course occupies a site characterized by mature oak woodlands, granite outcroppings, and elevation changes that provide views across Folsom Lake and the surrounding landscape. Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed the original layout, which opened in the early 1990s, establishing routing that works with the natural contours and preserves much of the native vegetation. Kyle Phillips later contributed renovations that refined certain aspects of the design while maintaining the course's fundamental character.
The layout moves through varied topography, with holes that climb and descend through oak-studded corridors and open to broader vistas at higher elevations. The granite formations that give the club its name appear throughout the property, influencing both the visual character and strategic elements of several holes. Water features come into play on multiple occasions, and the design emphasizes strategic bunkering and green complexes that reward thoughtful course management. The combination of elevation change, natural hazards, and mature trees creates a layout that demands accuracy and local knowledge.
Granite Bay operates as a private club serving the greater Sacramento region. The facility includes practice areas and clubhouse amenities typical of Northern California country clubs, and the course hosts member competitions and regional amateur events. The setting, removed from urban development and surrounded by foothill landscape, provides a relatively secluded golf environment within reasonable distance of the state capital.
