Goring & Streatley at Goring & Streatley Golf Club

Goring & Streatley Golf Club sits on the Berkshire Downs near the Thames Valley, occupying elevated chalk downland between the villages of Goring and Streatley, roughly ten miles northwest of Reading. Harry S. Colt designed the original eighteen holes in 1895, one of his earliest commissions before he became one of Britain's most influential golf architects. The course was later refined by Martin Hawtree, who has maintained the club's architectural heritage while adapting the layout to modern standards.

The course plays across rolling downland terrain with natural undulations and mature tree cover, characteristic of the Thames Valley chalk uplands. The routing takes advantage of the property's elevation changes and natural contours, offering views across the surrounding countryside. The downland turf provides firm playing conditions typical of chalk-based courses in southern England, with the layout incorporating both open and wooded sections that require varied shot-making.
