GOLDEN PHEASANT GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Lumberton, NJ, USA
Designed by Stephen Kay

Golden Pheasant Golf Club sits in Lumberton, New Jersey, in the southern portion of Burlington County. The course was designed by Stephen Kay, a New Jersey-based architect known for his restoration work at classic layouts and for creating courses that emphasize strategic variety and playability across different skill levels. Kay's design philosophy typically favors routing that works with existing land forms rather than imposing dramatic earthmoving, and his courses often feature multiple teeing grounds that allow the layout to accommodate a wide range of players.
The property lies in the Pine Barrens region of southern New Jersey, an area characterized by sandy soils, pine and oak vegetation, and generally flat to gently rolling terrain. Courses in this region tend to drain well and can play firm and fast when conditions allow. The routing likely takes advantage of natural corridors through the wooded areas while incorporating open spaces that provide contrast and visibility. Strategic bunkering and green complexes that reward thoughtful approach play are typical elements in Kay's work.
Golden Pheasant serves as a daily-fee facility, providing public access to golf in the greater Philadelphia metropolitan area. The course caters to local players and visitors seeking a well-maintained layout that balances challenge with enjoyment. The club offers standard amenities including practice facilities and a clubhouse with food and beverage service, typical of contemporary public golf operations in the region.
Reviews
Very narrow fairways. Incompetent golfers who slow down the pace. Due to the fairways being parallel to each other, you commonly have golfers hitting directly at each other on opposite fairway. Practice area sucks. Bar cart heavily over priced.
