GOLDEN GOLF CLUB
🇨🇦 Golden, British Columbia, CA
Designed by Bill Newis
Golden Golf Club sits in the Columbia River valley in southeastern British Columbia, surrounded by the dramatic peaks of the Rocky and Purcell mountain ranges. Designed by Bill Newis and opened in the mid-1990s, the course occupies relatively flat terrain along the valley floor, with the routing taking advantage of natural wetlands, mature stands of spruce and pine, and views toward the surrounding wilderness. The setting reflects the character of Golden itself, a small mountain town positioned at the confluence of the Columbia and Kicking Horse rivers.
The layout incorporates water hazards on several holes, with ponds and creek corridors coming into play both visually and strategically. Newis routed the course to preserve existing vegetation where possible, creating tree-lined fairways that frame shots against the mountain backdrop. The flatter topography allows for walkable golf, though elevation changes are modest compared to the towering landscape beyond the property boundaries.
Golden Golf Club serves both the local community and visitors traveling through the Canadian Rockies corridor. The course provides a straightforward mountain golf experience without the severe elevation changes found at some alpine layouts, making it accessible to a range of skill levels. The facility operates seasonally, with the high-elevation location and continental climate limiting the playing season to the warmer months when the valley is free of snow.
