Glen at Tenison Park is a Dallas municipal gem, a course whose humble beginnings belie the countless rounds and memories etched into its gently rolling landscape on Samuell Boulevard. Its enduring appeal lies not in championship aspirations, but in its accessibility and the genuine spirit of the golfers it serves.
Built in the early 1920s, Glen at Tenison Park, while not definitively architected by a single notable name, is a classic example of early American parkland design. With Champion Bermuda greens added later in 2007, and Tifway 419 Bermuda fairways, the fairways are wide and generally forgiving, but mature trees lining the fairways – and guarding the modestly sized greens – demand thoughtful strategy and a willingness to shape shots. The course favors those who can work the ball left-to-right, particularly on its signature dogleg lefts.
While Glen at Tenison Park might not boast a trophy case overflowing with national championships, it stands as a testament to the enduring power of public golf. The club is home to a diverse cross-section of Dallas golfers, from seasoned veterans to eager beginners, all united by a shared love of the game and the camaraderie found within the park.
Reviews
Course gets a bad rap but is fine. Classical links course. Super old school design. Good for the price.
Terrible condition. Fairways are rocks. No bunkers. Generally just neglected by the staff; there is a reason it is significantly cheaper than the Tenison Highlands course.
9:30 Saturday tee time for $35 = W
Great value. Always get a round in with college buddies whenever I'm in Dallas.
