Glasson Country House at Glasson Golf Club

Glasson Country House Golf Club sits on the eastern shore of Lough Ree, approximately five miles north of Athlone in County Westmeath. Christy O'Connor Jr. designed the course, which opened in the mid-1990s and takes full advantage of its lakeside setting in the Irish midlands. The property occupies gently rolling terrain with mature woodland and extends along the lough's shoreline, creating a parkland layout that incorporates water views and natural elevation changes throughout the round.

The routing moves through a mix of tree-lined corridors and more open stretches where Lough Ree becomes a visual and strategic element. Several holes play directly along the water, with the lough coming into play on approach shots and creating risk-reward scenarios typical of O'Connor's design philosophy. The course features the architect's characteristic use of natural contours, strategic bunkering, and green complexes that reward accurate iron play. Mature trees frame many fairways, and the property's natural drainage on sandy subsoil contributes to year-round playability.

Glasson operates as a members' club with visitor access, and the country house hotel on the grounds provides accommodation and dining facilities. The course has hosted regional amateur competitions and remains a recognized parkland layout in the Irish midlands, offering a combination of scenic lakeside golf and the strategic design elements associated with O'Connor's portfolio of Irish courses.
