Gillingham at Gillingham Golf Course

Gillingham Golf Course occupies gently rolling parkland on the outskirts of this historic Medway town in Kent, positioned between the Thames Estuary and the North Downs. The course was designed by James Braid, the five-time Open Champion who became one of Britain's most prolific golf architects in the early twentieth century, laying out hundreds of courses across the country. Donald Steel, the noted architect and golf writer, later contributed modifications that refined the layout while respecting Braid's original routing principles.

The course plays across varied terrain that takes advantage of the natural contours, with several holes offering elevated tees and greens that provide views across the Medway valley. Mature trees line many fairways, requiring accurate placement from the tee, while Braid's characteristic bunkering—often positioned to catch wayward drives and protect green approaches—remains a defining feature.
