GEORGIA NATIONAL GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 McDonough, GA, USA
Designed by Denis Griffiths
Georgia National Golf Club opened in 2006 on rolling terrain southeast of Atlanta in McDonough, Georgia. Denis Griffiths designed the course to take advantage of natural elevation changes uncommon in this part of the state, routing holes through mature hardwood forests and around several lakes and wetlands. The layout moves through distinct landscape zones, with some holes playing along open corridors and others framed tightly by trees.
The course measures over 7,000 yards from the back tees and features wide fairways that reward strategic positioning for approach shots into undulating greens. Griffiths incorporated substantial bunkering throughout, with deep sand complexes guarding many green entrances. Water comes into play on roughly half the holes, though forced carries are generally limited to what better players can manage from appropriate tees. The routing includes a mix of risk-reward par fives and several strong par threes that play across natural features.
Georgia National operates as a semi-private facility, offering both membership and daily-fee access. The club has hosted various regional amateur competitions and college events, taking advantage of its length and conditioning. The property includes practice facilities and a clubhouse that serves the golf operation. The course sits within reasonable driving distance of metro Atlanta, making it accessible to golfers throughout the region seeking a championship-length layout with notable terrain movement for Georgia's piedmont area.
