WESTIN MISSION HILLS GOLF RESORT & SPA
🇺🇸 Rancho Mirage, CA, USA
Designed by Gary Player

The Gary Player Course at Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa opened in 1991 as the resort's second championship layout, designed by Gary Player to complement the property's original Pete Dye course. The design occupies relatively flat desert terrain in Rancho Mirage, part of the greater Palm Springs area in California's Coachella Valley. Player routed the course through the resort grounds with strategic use of water features, bunkers, and native desert landscaping that frames the playing corridors against the backdrop of the Santa Rosa Mountains.
The course measures over 7,000 yards from the back tees and features Player's characteristic emphasis on strategic bunkering and multiple route options from the tee. Water comes into play on several holes, most notably on the closing stretch where lakes and streams require precise approach shots. The layout includes generous landing areas off the tee but tightens around the greens, where Player's bunker complexes and green contours demand thoughtful short game execution. Palm trees, oleander, and desert vegetation define the holes while maintaining sightlines across the property.
As a resort course, the Gary Player layout serves daily-fee players and resort guests seeking a desert golf experience with championship length and strategic variety. The course operates year-round, with peak season running through the winter and spring months when the Coachella Valley's climate draws golfers from colder regions. The Westin property offers standard resort amenities including practice facilities, dining, and spa services alongside its two golf courses.
