GALEN HALL GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Wernersville, PA, USA
Designed by A .W. Tillinghast, Alex Findlay

Galen Hall whispers tales of presidents and bygone eras, a Pennsylvania retreat where Eisenhower once sought respite on its fairways. The original nine holes, laid out in the early 20th century, showcase a pastoral parkland style, where gentle undulations and mature trees frame the Susquehanna Valley vista. While length isn't the primary defense, the course favors strategic shot-making, demanding thoughtful club selection on approach shots into subtly contoured greens.
Architects Wayne Stiles and John Van Kleek, known for their work on numerous Northeast clubs during the Golden Age, left their imprint here. Subsequent renovations have largely honored their vision, ensuring the course retains its classic character. Though it may not be a championship venue of international renown, Galen Hall offers a charming and accessible golfing experience.
The Galen Hall experience is deeply rooted in its local community. A round here is often accompanied by a hearty lunch at the club's restaurant, known for its traditional Pennsylvania Dutch fare, a comforting reflection of the region's heritage. This is a place where golf feels like a step back in time, a reminder of simpler pleasures amidst the rolling hills of Berks County.
Reviews
It all starts at hole #2 and goes down hill from there. Not a fan of the course layout. Overrated course with and issue of slow play. Their claim to fame is the first ever island green in America. Had higher hopes for this course. Have played it twice and left disappointed each time.
One of the best public back 9’s you’ll get. Would be elite with a proper reno.
One of the worst designed golf courses I’ve played. If you are playing here for the first time without someone who has knowledge of the course, good luck. Blind shot after blind shot either up a mountain or down
