Full Cry at Keswick Club, nestled in the rolling hunt country of Keswick, Virginia, evokes a sense of established tradition, where equestrian pursuits and sporting life intertwine. This is not a place to chase fleeting golf trends, but rather, to embrace a classic, challenging layout.
Originally designed by Pete Dye, Full Cry is a modern interpretation of parkland golf, set against the backdrop of the Virginia Piedmont. Generous fairways encourage aggressive play off the tee, but Dye's signature mounding and strategically placed bunkers reward precise approach shots. It's a course that respects the power game without completely ignoring the cerebral. Expect to see blind shots and undulating greens that demand a deft touch.
While not a fixture on the professional tournament circuit, Full Cry holds a special place for its membership, drawn from the Keswick Estate and surrounding communities. The atmosphere here is one of relaxed refinement, where post-round conversation often turns to the hunt, the turf, and the merits of a perfectly mixed gin and tonic. Speaking of the membership, they are keen sportsmen and very active at the skeet and shooting ranges.
Adding a unique twist, Full Cry recently underwent a comprehensive renovation that took its inspiration from Bobby Weed.
Reviews
Pete Dye’s mountain course. Railroad ties and pot bunkers dot a beautifully maintained course that measures 7156 from the championship tees. The rough is thick and penal, with small greens and heavy bunkering / undulations around the green. A true test.
