Fountaingrove at Fountaingrove Golf and Athletic Club

Fountaingrove Golf and Athletic Club occupies rolling terrain in the hills northeast of Santa Rosa in Sonoma County wine country. Designed by Ted Robinson and opened in the early 1980s, the course reflects Robinson's characteristic approach to Northern California layouts, incorporating water features and strategic bunkering across a property that offers elevation changes and views over the surrounding valleys. The routing takes advantage of the natural topography, with holes playing through oak-studded hillsides and across more open ridgeline sections.

Robinson, a prolific California architect whose work spans from the 1960s through the 1990s, designed numerous courses throughout the state with an emphasis on playability for a range of skill levels while maintaining visual interest. At Fountaingrove, the design balances risk-reward opportunities with straightforward holes, and the conditioning typically reflects the club's full-service athletic facility orientation. Water comes into play on several holes, a Robinson signature, requiring both strategic tee shot placement and approach shot precision.

The club operates as a private facility with amenities extending beyond golf to include tennis, fitness, and dining. Fountaingrove serves a membership drawn primarily from the Santa Rosa area and wider Sonoma County. The course experienced significant damage during the 2017 Tubbs Fire, which devastated portions of the Fountaingrove neighborhood, but the facility has since reopened and continues to serve its membership in the rebuilt community.
