LANCASTER COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Lancaster, PA, USA
Designed by Brian Silva, Jim Nagle, Ron Forse, William S. Flynn

Lancaster Country Club, steeped in Pennsylvania golfing history, bears the indelible mark of William Flynn across its Meadowcreek and Dogwood nines. The classic parkland layout, characteristic of its early 20th-century design, unfolds across gently rolling hills just outside Lancaster. Mature trees frame generous fairways, but wayward drives are often punished by thick rough – rewarding accuracy without sacrificing playability.
Flynn's genius is evident in the subtle contours of the greens and strategically placed bunkers that challenge golfers of all skill levels. Later enhancements, mindful of Flynn's original vision, have ensured the course remains relevant to the modern game, though whispers of the "Flynn Five," a particularly devilish sequence of holes, continue to circulate among the membership.
While not a regular stop on the professional circuit, Lancaster Country Club hosted the U.S. Women's Open in 2015, won by In Gee Chun. The club's enduring appeal, however, lies in its strong local membership, known for its passion for the game and the club's storied history. The post-round camaraderie, fueled perhaps by the club’s revered crab cakes, is as much a part of the Lancaster experience as the golf itself.
Reviews
Lancaster is an excellent championship course capable of hosting a big time event. The yardage is not super long (around 7,000 as a Par 70) but plays every bit of that number. Doesn’t play as a big golf course because of small targets and sloped greens that leave very few good places to miss it. Some serious elevation changes.
Could easily make a case that Lancaster is the third best course in PA, after Merion and Oakmont. Place is a delight and Flynn did his thing here with spectacular greens and a really creative use of the land. Conditions are strong. Great place.
Lancaster CC was the first real big boy golf course I played and I instantly fell in love with it. Not counting Merion which is pretty much a William Flynn course, I think Lancaster is the best Flynn in PA. Recent work from Jim Nagle has only made the course that much better. The putting green being connected to the first tee gets the blood pumping for what will be an unforgettable day!
