FIREKEEPER GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Mayetta, KS, USA
Designed by Jeff Brauer, Notah Begay III
Firekeeper Golf Course, a proud expression of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, unfolds across the rolling Kansas landscape, a testament to their stewardship of the land. The course, a modern design, plays long and favors a strategic approach, demanding players carefully consider club selection and angles into greens. Wide fairways belie the challenge, as subtle breaks and prevailing winds reward those who can read the terrain with a keen eye.
Architect Jeffrey D. Brauer carved Firekeeper from the native prairie, embracing the natural contours and integrating existing water features. The result is a visually striking layout where fescue grasses sway in the breeze, creating a links-like aesthetic despite its inland location. Though it may not host major championships, Firekeeper proudly hosted the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship in 2021.
Beyond the championship tees, Firekeeper is a place for the community. It is celebrated regionally as a challenging yet fair test of golf, it's commitment to environmental stewardship, and the Native American Heritage that the course is on.
