Fields Ranch West embodies the sweeping vision of PGA Frisco: a bold new chapter for American golf, etched onto the Texas landscape. This modern marvel unfolds across terrain far removed from the state's stereotypical flatlands, rising and falling with unexpected drama. The fairways are generous, a welcome invitation to swing freely, yet subtly favor the strategic player who can shape shots into the subtly contoured greens. Long, often exposed to the Texas wind, it rewards power and precision, and demands respect for the elements.
Designed by Gil Hanse, with partner Jim Wagner, Fields Ranch West stands in stark contrast to its championship sibling, Fields Ranch East. The design philosophy embraces risk-reward scenarios, encouraging aggressive play, particularly on the par-5s, while demanding thoughtful approaches to the well-guarded par-3s.
While young, Fields Ranch West is already set to host major championships, solidifying PGA Frisco as a premier tournament destination. It is a course designed to test the best, and its presence elevates the profile of golf in North Texas, attracting a vibrant, competitive membership.
Reviews
Played for free - corp event. Few fun holes, greens. Few forgettable.
Wouldn’t dream of paying to play here. It’s meant to be the creative, more fun and playable of the two courses but it feels rather uninspired to me. Green complexes are dramatic without being particularly thoughtful. The wasteland of Frisco home construction doesn’t exactly get my golf juices flowing either. Fairways are big enough to land a 747.
Definitely my favorite of the two Fields Ranch courses. Really fun layout.
Awful caddies made it worse but Compared to any other course in this price range, it feels the least like a T100 course. Many holes run together, only 2-3 truly memorable ones. Would be better if they turned it up a bit and leaned into being difficult. Greens weren’t fast and rough was cut low. Worth playing once, but probably not twice.
