The Club at Pronghorn's Fazio Course sits on high desert terrain east of Bend, Oregon, where the landscape transitions from the Cascade Range foothills into the open expanse of central Oregon's volcanic plateau. Tom Fazio designed this course in the early 2000s as part of a residential community development, working with the natural contours of ancient lava flows and incorporating the region's characteristic juniper trees, sagebrush, and native grasses into the routing. The property sits at approximately 3,800 feet elevation, offering views toward the Cascade peaks to the west.
Fazio's design navigates the volcanic rock formations and natural elevation changes inherent to the site, creating a layout that moves through varied terrain while maintaining playability across different skill levels. The course features wide fairway corridors typical of Fazio's work, with strategic bunkering and water features integrated into several holes. The high desert setting means firm, fast conditions during much of the playing season, and the exposed terrain makes wind a frequent factor in club selection and strategy.
Pronghorn operates as a private club with resort access, serving both members and guests staying at the property. The facility includes a second course, the Nicklaus Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened around the same time. The dual-course layout positions Pronghorn as one of central Oregon's more significant golf destinations, complementing the region's outdoor recreation economy centered on skiing, hiking, and fly fishing.
Reviews
This course is simply amazing. Beef all you want with a Fazio course this thing might be his best layout. The high desert in Bend might be some of the most scenic property too and it is not like dumpy overpriced Arizona desert golf. Place is immaculately conditioned and quite the walk.
