THE CLUB AT CARLTON WOODS
🇺🇸 The Woodlands, TX, USA
Designed by Tom Fazio

The Club at Carlton Woods' Fazio Course occupies rolling, wooded terrain in The Woodlands, a master-planned community north of Houston. Tom Fazio designed the layout to work with the property's natural elevation changes and mature pine and hardwood forest, creating a parkland character uncommon in the generally flat Texas Gulf Coast region. The routing takes advantage of the topography to produce varied shot values and strategic interest across the eighteen holes.
Fazio's design emphasizes definition and framing, with fairways carved through the trees and greens positioned to reward precise approach play. The course features the architect's characteristic bunkering style and green contouring, with hazards placed to influence decision-making from the tee and on approaches. Water comes into play on several holes, and the elevation movement provides natural drainage and adds dimension to what might otherwise be a straightforward woodland layout.
The Club at Carlton Woods operates as a private residential club within the larger Carlton Woods development and includes a second championship course designed by Jack Nicklaus. The Fazio Course serves as one of two centerpiece amenities for the community, which attracts members from Houston's business and professional sectors. The club offers traditional country club programming and facilities, with the golf courses as the primary recreational focus. The Woodlands location provides convenient access to Houston while maintaining a secluded, heavily forested setting.
