FALCONHEAD GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Austin, TX, USA
Designed by Chris Gray, Ron Garl
Falconhead stands as a testament to Austin’s growing golf scene, a course that has matured alongside the city itself. Designed in the early 2000s, the original course offered an approachable, resort-style experience amid the rolling Texas Hill Country.
This is not a links layout nor a rugged test of champions, but a strategic routing where savvy course management is more rewarding than raw power. Wide fairways invite the aggressive drive, but subtle undulations and strategically placed bunkers punish the wayward. The course favors a slight draw, rewarding players who can work the ball from right to left. Falconhead is more for the weekend golfer than the pro, but is still fun nonetheless.
While not steeped in major championship history, Falconhead remains a popular choice for local tournaments and member events, fostering a sense of community among Austin's golf enthusiasts. The club has developed a loyal following, drawn to the relaxed atmosphere and accessible golf. The men's locker room is known for its post round dominoes and is a popular event for its members.
Reviews
Challenging, tree lined course, but fair. It was engaging, which is better than most public’s. Pace was slow slow. Good clubhouse. Range leaves a lot to be desired, facilities fine. Would play again, value may be in question depending on prices.
Played a couple days after a rain, course was pristine. 17th was an awesome par 3, lots of fun and very green compared to other Austin courses.
Solid option in the Austin hill country. Some good views and fun holes.
Course gets a lot of traffic and conditions can be hit or miss…. Not a bad course by any means, and one of the better public courses in Lakeway since most the courses in this area are private. Quirky design — lots of elevation and can be a challenging round
Fun and quirky. Good conditions depending on the time of year. Expensive as a mf
