EUGENE COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Eugene, OR, USA
Designed by H. Chandler Egan, Robert Trent Jones Sr.

Eugene Country Club occupies rolling terrain in Oregon's Willamette Valley, where the course benefits from the region's temperate climate and natural Douglas fir and oak woodlands. The club was established in the 1920s, with original design work by H. Chandler Egan, the accomplished amateur golfer and architect who shaped several notable Pacific Northwest courses during that era. Egan's routing takes advantage of the property's elevation changes and mature tree corridors, creating a traditional parkland layout that emphasizes strategic positioning over length.
Robert Trent Jones Sr. later renovated the course, bringing his characteristic emphasis on larger greens, enhanced bunkering, and more defined hazards. The Jones modifications introduced greater challenge while preserving the fundamental character of Egan's routing through the wooded landscape. The combination of Egan's original strategic concepts and Jones's mid-century refinements gives the course a layered design history typical of many established American country clubs.
The layout moves through varied terrain, with several holes playing across or along natural drainage corridors and others climbing through the property's higher ground. Tree-lined fairways demand accuracy, and the greens present subtle contours that reward local knowledge. Eugene Country Club serves as a traditional private club for the Eugene community, hosting regional amateur competitions and maintaining its role as one of the area's longstanding golf venues. The course reflects both the craftsmanship of early Pacific Northwest golf architecture and the evolution of design standards through subsequent decades.
Reviews
The trees are incredible. Went during renovation so only 14 holes open
Best course in Eugene and probably top 15 in state. Excellent conditions interesting holes. Fairly flat but push up greens. If you get the opportunity you should definitely play here.
An absolute treat from the second we stepped on property. Place has such an incredible and laid back vibe, a true golfers club. 90% of members walk and it's a wonderful walk, as I too chose to walk. Shaping shots around the crazy tall trees is so fun, and you can't beat beaver pelts off rye grass. Greens were absolutely immaculate and lightning fast. All in all an awesome experience and a great golf course. French Dip and Moscow Mule on the patio to end the day is as good as it gets. I pray I get to comeback some day as I did not want to leave.
