ESCONDIDO GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Horseshoe Bay, TX, USA
Designed by Tom Fazio

Escondido Golf Course occupies a distinctive setting within the Horseshoe Bay Resort community on the northern shores of Lake LBJ in the Texas Hill Country. Tom Fazio designed the course, which opened in the mid-1980s as part of the resort's expansion of golf offerings. The layout takes its name from the Spanish word for "hidden," reflecting both the secluded nature of the property and the way Fazio routed holes through the rugged limestone terrain characteristic of this region.
The course navigates dramatic elevation changes and natural rock outcroppings that define the Hill Country landscape. Fazio incorporated the native limestone formations into the design, creating holes that play along ridgelines and through valleys where the topography shapes strategy and shot values. Water features appear on several holes, though the routing emphasizes the land's natural contours rather than the lakefront itself. The design requires thoughtful club selection and course management given the elevation shifts and the premium on accuracy over distance on many holes.
Escondido serves primarily as a resort amenity within Horseshoe Bay, which has developed a reputation as a golf destination in Central Texas. The course complements the property's other layouts and appeals to players seeking a more intimate, terrain-driven experience. The Hill Country setting provides views across the surrounding landscape, and the conditioning reflects the resort's commitment to maintaining quality playing surfaces despite the challenges of the rocky substrate and regional climate.
Reviews
One of the top courses in Texas. Beautiful course — perfectly maintained. Fazio design which is never my favorite type of course… the design is good, nothing special, but it does feel very luxurious/pristine and would recommended playing it if you have the chance.
When it comes to experiences and facilities, Dido is great. There isn’t a blade of grass out of place and the comfort stations are awesome. The course itself leave a bit to be desired but it’s in amazing condition basically year round
