Erinvale at Erinvale Golf Club

Erinvale Golf Club sits in Somerset West in the Western Cape, approximately 50 kilometers east of Cape Town. The course occupies land beneath the Helderberg Mountains, with the dramatic peaks of the Hottentots Holland range providing a constant backdrop. Gary Player designed the layout, which opened in the early 1980s on what was originally part of a wine estate. The property's history as farmland influences the routing, which moves through vineyards and incorporates mature oak trees that frame several holes.

The course plays across relatively level terrain in the shadow of the mountains, though Player introduced water features and strategic bunkering to define the challenge. Several holes run alongside or across streams and ponds, making accuracy a premium on approach shots. The layout takes advantage of prevailing winds that funnel down from the mountain slopes, adding a variable element to club selection. The setting combines Cape Winelands character with mountain scenery, typical of courses in this region of the Western Cape.

Erinvale has hosted professional tournaments on the Sunshine Tour, South Africa's primary professional golf circuit, giving the course exposure among competitive players in the region.
