THE ELKRIDGE CLUB
🇺🇸 Baltimore, MD, USA
Designed by Seth Raynor
Baltimore's Elkridge Hunt, a fixture of the area's sporting life for over a century, presents a unique challenge within the rolling Maryland landscape. While not a championship venue, the course offers a classic, understated golfing experience reflective of its established membership.
The course, situated north of the city, enjoys the parkland style characteristic of its era, demanding strategic play rather than sheer length. Tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens reward thoughtful approaches and penalize wayward shots. While the original design is attributed to Donald Ross, subsequent modifications have refined the course, preserving its historic charm while adapting it to modern play. The relatively short layout also incorporates blind shots that often confound first time players.
Elkridge Hunt has maintained its reputation as a haven for Baltimore's established families. The club is also known for its strong equestrian traditions, a nod to its past as a traditional hunting club and an integral aspect of its identity to this day, often hosting polo matches and other equestrian events.
Reviews
Great club. Fun course, but needs some touching up which I’ve heard is in the works. The Raynor features are a bit muted throughout; it can shine if those become more prominent.
Such a fun place. Can make birdie or double on just about every hole.
