EDELWEISS CHALET COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 New Glarus, WI, USA
Designed by Art Johnson

Edelweiss Chalet Country Club sits in New Glarus, a small Wisconsin town known for its Swiss heritage and rolling Driftless Area topography. The course was designed by Art Johnson, a regional architect who worked primarily in the Upper Midwest during the mid-to-late twentieth century. Johnson's designs typically reflect the natural terrain of their settings, and the New Glarus landscape offers the kind of elevation changes and wooded corridors characteristic of southwestern Wisconsin's unglaciated hill country.
The routing likely moves through a mix of open farmland and forested sections, taking advantage of the natural contours that define this part of the state. Courses in this region often feature dramatic elevation shifts from tee to green, with fairways that follow ridgelines or drop into valleys. The Driftless Area's distinctive topography—marked by steep hills, narrow valleys, and limestone outcroppings—provides a setting quite different from the flatter terrain found in much of Wisconsin.
New Glarus itself is a small community with strong ties to its Swiss immigrant roots, and the club's name reflects that cultural identity. The facility serves as a recreational and social center for the area, offering golf in a rural setting that emphasizes the natural beauty of southwestern Wisconsin. The course provides a straightforward test of golf shaped by the land's inherent character rather than extensive earthmoving or artificial features.
Reviews
Lovely early morning walk. Felt like an ultra-private experience.
Fun course with some very memorable holes. I personally like the layout of the front 9. Good starting hole with downhill drive. 2nd and 3rd hole are good challenges. Only real disappointing hole is the 18th, which is kind of gimmicky hole with a tough almost unfair green depending on pin placement. My only real complaint about the course is that it can get very congested with fast and slow players. All in all one of my favorite small town Wisconsin CC.
