ROYCE BROOK GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Hillsborough, NJ, USA
Designed by Steve Smyers
East at Royce Brook Golf Club offers a modern, playable counterpoint to the classically demanding courses of central New Jersey. Carved from the rolling farmland of Hillsborough Township, the course presents a less punishing and more forgiving test, prioritizing enjoyment for golfers of all skill levels.
Designed by Steven Smyers, the East course avoids the pinched fairways and penal rough of more strategically demanding layouts. Favoring a grip-it-and-rip-it style, it prioritizes length and rewards aggressive play. The expansive bentgrass fairways and undulating greens offer a distinctly American parkland experience, a departure from the tight, tree-lined courses found closer to the coast.
While it has not hosted major championships, the East course at Royce Brook holds a strong position within the regional golfing community. The course's welcoming nature fostered a tight-knit group known for their camaraderie after the round. Many gather in the clubhouse, drawn as much by the course’s accessibility as by the club's legendary Buffalo wings – a local favorite almost as famous as a birdie on the par-5 18th.
Reviews
The greens are sick. Inconsistent green speed around the course. Course could be much better shape. Fairways and bunkers solid. Pace of play is a huge problem. 0 rangers on the course, 5 hours 20 minute round when I played. Was bumper to bumper slow. Friend got a hole in 1 on 8 though so that was cool.
