OAK HILL COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Rochester, NY, USA
Designed by Craig Schreiner, Donald Ross, Robert Trent Jones Sr.
Oak Hill's East Course is where legends are forged under the weight of major championship pressure. Carved into the rolling landscape just outside Rochester, New York, the East Course presents a classic parkland challenge from the Golden Age of golf. Donald Ross’s masterful routing, later enhanced by significant renovations led by Andrew Green, takes full advantage of the property's natural contours. Strategically placed bunkers and subtly sloping greens reward thoughtful shot-making, making it a cerebral test that requires more than brute force.
The East Course has served as a stern proving ground for golf’s elite. Six U.S. Opens, three PGA Championships, including Brooks Koepka's 2023 victory, and the Ryder Cup have all unfolded on its hallowed grounds. Few courses boast such a prestigious championship pedigree.
Oak Hill's membership reflects the club's enduring stature. Rooted in a culture of respect for the game and its traditions, it's a place where generations have shared a passion for golf. It’s also the location where the famed "Oak Hill Sleepy Hollow" incident took place which occurred when a group of club members drove down to the Sleepy Hollow Country Club to liberate, for a short time at least, some of the statues which they thought rightfully belonged at Oak Hill to begin with. That’s their tale at least.
Beyond the course, Oak Hill is known for its commitment to junior golf and its active caddie program, a point of pride for many members. It’s a community dedicated to perpetuating the values of the game for future generations and is one of the most well-known and sought after clubs for Rochesterians.
Reviews
Everything that is done here is awesome. The range is awesome and so are the people. Then you get to the golf course and you are absolutely blown away.
East is the Major Championship course but I love the West over the East. Greens are always so fast and its tough to not be scared of putts. Excited to see them host the US Amateur and yet another PGA in the near future
Definition of a championship golf course, every hole feels distinct and super difficult. Andrew green has done a great restoration and upstate vibe of the club is great and inviting.
Classic New York east coast course. Hosted multiple major tournaments. A must play if you have the opportunity
The East course is such a good test. There's definitely a couple of scoring holes, but angles are super important. I really enjoyed it. It's a championship test without being dumb. High tier Ross.
On site cottages are 👍, pristine, very tough
