DRUMLINS GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Syracuse, NY, USA
Designed by Leonard Macomber

East at Drumlins Golf Club in Syracuse, NY, stakes its claim as a walkable, accessible course, once known for its challenging layout and now more celebrated for its role as a community hub for golfers of all skill levels. Originally crafted in the early 1930s, its design reflects a classic parkland style, emphasizing tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens, demanding strategic shot placement rather than raw power.
The course bears the mark of distinguished architect Donald Ross, whose original vision has been tweaked over the years to accommodate modern play. The relatively flat terrain makes it exceptionally playable, though cunningly placed bunkers and the occasional dogleg test a player’s course management. Those who favor shaping shots and strategic club selection find a distinct advantage here, especially on the tight back nine.
While not a major championship venue, East at Drumlins holds a special place in the heart of local golf, hosting numerous regional amateur events and cultivating a loyal membership. The club has long been known for its unpretentious atmosphere and commitment to making golf accessible to all, reinforcing its reputation as a friendly haven where camaraderie thrives.
Reviews
The home course of the Orange can offer some challenging shots. The front 9 plays pretty straight forward opening up with your best scoring chances on reachable par 5s on 1 and 2. On the back 9 you will see some funky design starting with 11 with a tough decision on club selection where trees make the landing zone for driver quite narrow. 15 plays a similar way and then you’ll look straight down on the par 3 16th with a huge drop. There really isn’t an easy par 3 on this course which can be where strokes are lost along with quick and sloped greens.
