DALMAHOY, A MARRIOTT HOTEL AND COUNTRY CLUB
🏴 Kirknewton, West Lothian, Scotland
Designed by James Braid
East at Dalmahoy whispers tales of leisurely estate rounds, reborn as a strategic challenge. Carved into the rolling parkland west of Edinburgh, the East course offers panoramic views coupled with Golden Era subtleties. Originally laid out in the 1920s, the design favours a measured approach. While not particularly notable on the global stage, the course has enjoyed a modern revamp with re-designed bunkering to capture a classic aesthetic.
The East course will test players with its many dog legs, calling for calculated fades and draws to navigate the mature trees lining each fairway. Blind shots and deceptive undulations on the greens ask that players keep their wits about them, with its short layout.
Beyond the golf, the clubhouse, like an old estate home, is known for its hearty Scottish fare, with the haggis and whisky a post-round staple amongst members and guests. Dalmahoy offers a glimpse into a bygone era of sporting leisure, updated for the modern game.
