YATESVILLE LAKE GOLF COURSE (EAGLE RIDGE)
🇺🇸 Louisa, KY, USA
Designed by Arthur Hills, Shawn Smith

Eagle Ridge at Yatesville Lake Golf Course occupies rolling terrain in eastern Kentucky's coal country, approximately fifteen miles south of Louisa near the West Virginia border. Arthur Hills designed the course with Shawn Smith, bringing his characteristic approach of working with natural landforms rather than imposing dramatic earthmoving. The layout takes advantage of the property's elevation changes and wooded corridors, creating a parkland-style course that reflects the Appalachian foothills setting.
The routing moves through varied topography, with holes playing across ridges and through valleys carved by the region's streams and drainage patterns. Hills typically incorporated strategic bunkering and multiple teeing grounds to accommodate different skill levels, and the design here follows that template. Several holes offer views across the surrounding hills and toward Yatesville Lake, a reservoir created in the 1990s for flood control and recreation. The course serves as the centerpiece of a state park facility, making it accessible to public play.
Eagle Ridge functions as a regional golf destination in an area with limited course options, drawing players from the tri-state region of Kentucky, West Virginia, and Ohio. The facility includes standard public course amenities and operates within the Kentucky State Parks system, which manages several golf courses across the commonwealth. The layout provides a woodland golf experience characteristic of Hills's work in similar terrain throughout the Midwest and Appalachian regions.
