BROOKSIDE GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Pasadena, CA, USA
Designed by William Francis Bell
Brookside Golf & Country Club, nestled against the backdrop of the San Gabriel Mountains in Pasadena, is where Southern California golf history was truly born. E.O. Nay’s original design, a product of the early Golden Age, possesses a parkland character defined by mature trees and gently rolling terrain that challenges players with strategic bunkering and subtly contoured greens. Nay's design philosophy favored shot-makers over bombers, but it still rewards length and accuracy, even by today's standards.
While Brookside has hosted the Los Angeles Open on multiple occasions, and acted as an auxiliary course during major championships held at its neighbor, the more celebrated Rose Bowl, its legacy lies more in its role as a haven for the local golfing community. The club maintains a strong local membership, drawn from the surrounding communities, that values the course's playability and the club's commitment to its deep-rooted traditions.
Significant renovations have honored Nay's original vision while subtly enhancing the course for the modern game. The club’s unpretentious character offers a welcome counterpoint to the glitz of nearby Hollywood, and its enduring appeal lies in its authentic and unshowy atmosphere.
Brookside is a reminder that not all great golf stories are written on scoreboards, but within the clubhouses and on the fairways that connect generations of golfers. It's a place where the echoes of laughter and the spirit of camaraderie linger long after the final putt drops.
