PROMONTORY PARK CITY GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Park City, UT, USA
Designed by Pete Dye

Dye Canyon is one of two Pete Dye courses at Promontory, a private club community situated in the mountains above Park City, Utah. Opened in 2007, the course occupies dramatic terrain in the Wasatch Range at elevations between 7,000 and 8,000 feet, where the high-altitude setting affects both ball flight and playing conditions. Dye routed the course through a natural canyon system, using the steep topography and existing landforms to create a layout that moves through varied elevations and mountain landscapes.
The design reflects Dye's characteristic approach to working with challenging terrain, incorporating significant elevation changes, forced carries, and strategic bunkering throughout the routing. The course plays through stands of scrub oak and native grasses, with fairways that often tilt and turn according to the canyon contours. Several holes feature pronounced drops from tee to fairway or green, while others climb back upward through the draws and ridgelines. The mountain setting provides expansive views across the surrounding ranges and down toward the Park City area.
Promontory operates as a private club with two distinct courses—Dye Canyon and the Nicklaus-designed Painted Valley—serving a membership drawn largely from second-home owners and destination members. The club sits within a residential development but maintains substantial open space and natural buffer zones around the golf corridors. The high-altitude location means a relatively short playing season, typically from late spring through mid-autumn, depending on snowfall patterns.
