Dwan Golf Club sits in Bloomington, Minnesota, a suburban community in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Designed by David Gill, the course operates as a municipal facility serving the local golfing population in a region where public golf plays a significant role in the recreational landscape. The course reflects the practical design approach common to many midwestern municipal layouts from its era, balancing playability for a wide range of golfers with the natural terrain available in the southern Minneapolis suburbs.
The routing works through relatively modest topography characteristic of the Minnesota River valley region, where gentle elevation changes and mature tree growth define the playing corridors. Bloomington's position in the metro area means the course exists within a developed suburban context, though established vegetation typically provides separation between holes and from surrounding neighborhoods. The design likely emphasizes straightforward hole concepts that accommodate steady public play while still requiring thoughtful course management.
As a municipal facility, Dwan serves both regular local players and occasional visitors looking for accessible golf in the southern Twin Cities. The course contributes to Bloomington's network of public recreational amenities in a city perhaps better known for the Mall of America and its proximity to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. For golfers in the area, it represents a convenient option for routine play without the pretense or cost associated with private club golf.
Reviews
Played it on a whim. Course itself is short and bunkers are unplayable. Loved the people I met there. A sense of community I haven’t experienced at any other public course.
I mean…if you need a confidence boost THIS is your course. I low key love this place. Fairly benign muni. Short, yes, but that keeps pace rolling. #2, #13 and #17 are horrible golf holes. The rest are fun.
