Dune at Joondalup Country Club

The Dune Course at Joondalup Country Club occupies coastal terrain approximately thirty kilometers north of Perth's central business district. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course opened in the late 1980s as part of a residential development in what was then a rapidly growing northern corridor of the metropolitan area. The layout takes its name and character from the natural sand dune topography that defines much of the Perth coastline, with the routing moving through native bushland and across undulating sandy ground.

The design reflects the Jones family's characteristic approach to strategic golf, with generous landing areas balanced by well-positioned hazards and greens that reward accurate approach play. Water features appear on several holes, and the course incorporates both native vegetation and introduced landscaping typical of Australian parkland developments from this era. The sandy subsoil provides excellent drainage and firm playing conditions for much of the year, a quality common to courses built on Perth's coastal plain.

Joondalup Country Club operates as a private facility serving the northern suburbs, with the Dune Course functioning as the primary championship layout. The club has hosted regional amateur competitions and serves as a venue for club-level tournament play. The course remains a notable example of American design influence in Western Australian golf, representing the period when international architects were increasingly commissioned for major projects in the Perth market.
